La Marinière Saint-James, or the French sailor shirt

Known in the world as the French sailor shirt, or la Marinière or the Breton shirt this is a french icon. This fall winter the stripped navy white and blue, or the new version in red and white  has been lunched on runways and in the street.  Refered it as a "basique" (in French), la marinière has become a basic and essentiel piece of my wardrobe. But not only for me, a timeless classic, versatile and adaptable, la Marinière looks good on almost everyone.
Some claim that the Mariniere or everything stripped and nautical have been overdone in recent years. Are we headed for a Breton stripe overdose?

Following Chanel footsteps, famous designers re-invented the Breton shirt. (Yves Saint-Laurent, Jean Paul Gaultier). Some artists adopted la Marinière. Voilà, Pablo Picasso. Brigitte Bardot invented the look also with flat shoes and cropped jeans...

No matter. There are different colors and styles. Most comes from France,  and it works great. In Madrid now is easy to find them. I'm seeing them everywhere! Americans collections also are including at least one or two models of French sailor shirt.

La Marinière is here to stay. I'm definitely a fan of the stripped shirt and I have no problem to get fixed to it.

What about you? Vous aimez La Marinière? Do you like the French sailor shirt?
