Photography: #Voguelikeapainting exhibition

Of all the magazines produced by fashion editors, it is arguable that VOGUE remains the most iconic. Read by actresses, mothers, politicians, models, professors, daughters it has become a must in fashion for every woman.

In Vogue like a painting current exhibition at Thyssen Bornemisza in Madrid, the organisators set out a chart of path between art and fashion using both painting and shot by some of the most talented  photographers in the last three decades including Irving Penn, Steven Klein, Tim Walker or Annie Leibovitz to name a few.

Echoes from Sorolla, Zuluaga are present in this exhition from classic photography housed in the archives of Vogue.

The selection of the 70 photos of the show has been based on their primarily pictorial quality: some because of their ground-breaking use of light and color, some others because they show a direct reference to an art movement or an specific artist: Veemer, Hopper, Van Eyck, Boticelli, Degas, Dalí, Hoghart, Rosetti, Magritte...

Therefore the exhibition sorted into painting like genres: portraits, landscapes, interiors.

When you exit the main body of the exhibition make sure you head upstairs to discover the reading room with its piles of fashion books and catalogues. There are drawers to pull out with sensory surprises.
I was *most* taken with the book FASHION: all the history.

A lovely souvenir of a fantastic morning visiting the Thyssen yet enthralling the world of Vogue.
